SAP CTO Juergen Mueller to Step Down Amid Apology for Past Behavior

SAP SE announced on September 3, 2024, that Chief Technology Officer and Executive Board Member Dr.-Ing. Juergen Mueller will leave the company’s Executive Board, effective September 30, 2024. This decision follows a mutual agreement with the SAP Supervisory Board. Mueller addressed an incident at a past company event, acknowledging inappropriate behavior and expressing regret. He apologized to those affected and stated that his actions did not align with SAP’s values. Mueller emphasized that stepping down is in the best interest of the company and wished the team continued success. Pekka Ala-Pietilä, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, thanked Mueller for his significant contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Mueller has been instrumental in establishing the SAP Business Technology Platform, which supports over 23,000 live customers and forms the technical foundation for SAP’s best-of-suite offerings. In the interim, SAP CEO Christian Klein will take over most of Mueller’s responsibilities in the Technology and Innovation Board area.
