Artificial intelligence will enhance, rather than replace, human jobs by complementing existing skills, according to Carl Eschenbach, Co-CEO of Workday. Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Eschenbach emphasized the concept of "AI co-pilots" that will work alongside employees, helping them navigate tasks more efficiently. Generative AI, for example, can provide push recommendations for skill development, helping workers identify areas where they need to improve or be reskilled. Eschenbach envisions AI improving productivity and internal mobility within companies, particularly in HR departments, where it can streamline hiring processes and offer insights for career progression.
Eschenbach also addressed concerns over job displacement, highlighting that AI will serve as an augmentation tool rather than a replacement. By automating routine tasks, AI can free up workers to focus on more meaningful and productive duties. For Workday itself, AI has been a part of its platform for over a decade, and the company plans to continue incorporating AI without increasing its pricing. Eschenbach stressed that innovation should be accessible to all customers, ensuring AI enhances Workday's management software offerings while remaining cost-effective
