J Allard, a former Microsoft executive renowned for his role in the development of Xbox and numerous other projects, has joined Amazon’s Devices and Services team. Confirmed by Amazon, Allard’s new role is under the leadership of Panos Panay, another former Microsoft executive who now heads the division responsible for Alexa, Echo, and various innovative devices. Allard now holds the title of Vice President of Product. His specific responsibilities remain undisclosed, but his track record suggests potential for impactful contributions to Amazon's consumer technology initiatives.
During his 19-year tenure at Microsoft, Allard was instrumental in the creation of Xbox, Xbox Live, and other entertainment platforms that defined the gaming industry. He was also an early advocate for internet integration, drafting a widely referenced memo in 1994 on its potential for Windows. After departing Microsoft, Allard pursued various ventures, including founding Project 529, a community-powered bicycle theft prevention platform that was recently acquired. With a recent stint at GoFundMe, Allard now brings his decades of product and technology expertise to Amazon, where his extensive experience is expected to influence the company’s ongoing efforts in consumer electronics and AI-driven technology.
