Apple to Grant Developers Access to On-Device AI Models at WWDC 2025

Apple plans to provide third-party developers with access to its smaller on-device language models through a new software development kit (SDK), according to a report by Bloomberg. The SDK will allow developers to build AI-powered applications or integrate Apple Intelligence features, such as writing suggestions, summaries, and image generation, into existing apps. This initiative is expected to be officially announced during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) starting on June 9, 2025. Initially, the SDK will not include access to Apple’s cloud-based foundation models, focusing instead on local models similar to those in Google’s Gemini Nano.

The announcement may also coincide with updates to iOS, macOS, and iPadOS, which are expected to be redesigned to align more closely with the interface of the Vision Pro operating system.
