Microsoft Invests $400M to Strengthen Switzerland’s AI and Cloud Capabilities

Microsoft has announced a $400 million investment to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure across Switzerland. The initiative builds on 36 years of Microsoft’s presence in the country and will upgrade data centers near Zurich and Geneva with advanced AI capabilities, serving over 50,000 customers, including regulated sectors such as healthcare, finance, and government. This investment supports Switzerland’s digital infrastructure and addresses rising AI adoption, with Azure OpenAI usage and GitHub AI contributions increasing significantly in recent years. Microsoft also reaffirmed its commitment to data sovereignty, as seen in its work with UBS and Luzerner Kantonsspital. Brad Smith, Microsoft Vice Chair and President, stated, “This latest investment helps further strengthen Switzerland’s long-term economic resilience and competitiveness, while ensuring full compliance with Swiss regulations.”
