Anthropic Unveils Claude Gov AI Models Tailored for U.S. National Security Agencies

Anthropic has introduced Claude Gov, a specialized version of its AI models built for use by U.S. defense and intelligence agencies. Announced at a time of increasing government interest in artificial intelligence, Claude Gov models are designed to support tasks like threat assessment and intelligence analysis. These models, which are already in use by top-level national security agencies, are configured to handle classified data more flexibly than consumer-facing versions. According to Anthropic, the models “refuse less when engaging with classified information” and offer improved understanding of defense-specific documents, context, and relevant languages. The company noted that while the Claude Gov models underwent the same rigorous safety testing as other Claude models, they include configurations tailored to national security requirements.
