OpenAI has announced the appointment of Adebayo “Bayo” Ogunlesi to its Board of Directors. As the Founding Partner, Chairman, and CEO of Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), and a Senior Managing Director at BlackRock, Ogunlesi brings extensive expertise in corporate finance, infrastructure investment, and global market strategy. His inclusion bolsters the Board’s diverse competencies in AI safety, cybersecurity, regulatory affairs, and economic governance, enhancing its oversight of OpenAI’s progress toward Artificial General Intelligence. Bret Taylor, Chair of OpenAI’s Board, expressed confidence in Ogunlesi’s ability to contribute significantly, citing his proven track record of navigating complex commercial landscapes.
Ogunlesi, an attorney and businessman, has held prominent positions across industries, including senior roles at Credit Suisse and a clerkship under U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. He has also taught at prestigious institutions including Harvard and Yale. Holding degrees from Oxford University, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Business School, he serves on several corporate boards, including BlackRock and Topgolf Callaway Brands. Ogunlesi expressed enthusiasm for the role, emphasizing the importance of strategic investment in AI infrastructure to unlock its potential responsibly. His appointment reflects OpenAI’s commitment to fostering innovation and driving responsible AI development.
