Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, announced the launch of the AWS Mexico (Central) Region. This new data region comprises three Availability Zones in Queretaro, designed to provide secure, low-latency cloud services to businesses, governments, and nonprofit organizations across Mexico and Latin America. AWS plans to invest more than $5 billion in the country over the next 15 years, alongside a $300,000 AWS InCommunities Fund aimed at supporting local schools, community projects, and organizations in Queretaro. The initiative is expected to add $10 billion to Mexico’s GDP and create more than 7,000 jobs annually in sectors such as construction, engineering, and telecommunications.
The AWS Mexico (Central) Region will enhance local data storage compliance, support business continuity, and enable advanced cloud solutions across industries, including finance, healthcare, and retail. Companies including BBVA, Grupo Becle, Hospital Angeles, and public sector organizations are already leveraging AWS technologies to drive innovation and digital transformation. This launch aligns with AWS's commitment to sustainability, as the facilities employ energy-efficient designs and air-cooling systems. Since 2017, AWS has trained more than 500,000 individuals in cloud skills across Mexico, with plans to upskill an additional 200,000 by 2026, contributing to the nation’s digital growth and workforce development.
