From van life to fintech: Paul Hunter’s vision to modernize B2B payments

Before he was a fintech founder, Paul Hunter was a scrappy dreamer living in a van by the beach, obsessed with fixing broken systems. That same drive still fuels him today as the Founder and CEO of Bill360, a fast-growing platform built to solve pain points in B2B payments.

Hunter isn’t new to payments. He previously built Sterling Payment Technologies into a national processing firm, ultimately selling it for around $200 million. But after sitting out a four-year non-compete, he came back to fix manual invoicing, poor cash flow visibility, and B2B payment systems that lagged far behind.

He went on to build Bill360 from scratch with a $50 million investment and feedback from thousands of businesses. The company automates the entire AR cycle, from invoicing and reminders to embedded payments and real-time insights. Hunter says Bill360 addresses pain points  “head-on, streamlining invoicing, automating reminders, reducing fraud, and enabling real-time cash flow visibility — resulting in businesses getting paid an average of 36% faster.”

A recently released Deloitte report refers to this as part of the “payments halo effect,” where embedding the right payment options and terms into digital workflows improves cash flow and enhances the customer experience. The report notes that businesses are increasingly adopting integrated payment tools to offer easier and more flexible transactions, especially as consumers shift away from cash and checks.

The platform also enables ISVs to embed AR automation into their own offerings, unlocking recurring revenue. Deloitte highlights this trend as well, noting that small and midsize merchants are gravitating toward integrated software vendors that offer built-in payment functionality and support for digital wallets.

Hunter cites WeighPay, one of the company’s platform users, for being able to leverage an integrated solution that eliminates inefficiencies and improves accuracy for its customers. “The company recently added Bill360’s AR automation platform to its waste and recycling industry software, helping its customers see increased satisfaction, financial efficiency, and improved operations through seamless billing and payments, all in a unified platform.”

His mission to build tools that actually work for real businesses goes back to those early days by the beach, where he envisioned building something truly meaningful. “I’m deeply committed to building not just great products, but great companies — and to surrounding myself with people who share a bias for action, clarity of purpose, and a passion for execution,” Hunter said.
