RWE and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a Strategic Framework Agreement that aims to accelerate the clean energy transition while meeting the growing electricity demands of the digital economy. The partnership builds on a series of Power Purchase Agreements between the two companies, which already account for 1.1 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in the U.S. By expanding their collaboration, RWE and AWS are taking concrete steps to reduce carbon emissions and support more sustainable operations, with RWE supplying clean electricity from its wind and solar projects to help power Amazon’s infrastructure.
Beyond expanding access to renewable energy, the agreement will also help RWE enhance the efficiency and impact of its clean energy operations through advanced cloud technology. AWS will provide artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cloud computing solutions to improve forecasting, optimize renewable energy generation, and support smarter decision-making across RWE’s business. These tools are already showing results, including a 30% performance improvement in RWE’s energy trading platform. The partnership also strengthens RWE’s AI Research Lab in Seattle, where work is underway to develop advanced forecasting models that can make renewable energy even more reliable—reinforcing how technology and collaboration can accelerate progress toward a more sustainable energy future.
