Snowflake Buys Crunchy Data, Strengthening PostgreSQL Capabilities for AI Workloads

Snowflake has announced its intent to acquire Crunchy Data, a provider of open-source PostgreSQL solutions, during its annual Snowflake Summit 2025. The acquisition will introduce Snowflake Postgres, a fully compatible, AI-ready, enterprise-grade PostgreSQL database within the Snowflake AI Data Cloud. This move aims to meet growing enterprise demand for secure and scalable Postgres solutions suitable for mission-critical AI applications. With Crunchy Data’s established presence in FedRAMP-compliant environments and regulated sectors, Snowflake Postgres will provide developers with advanced performance metrics, built-in scaling capabilities, and a user-friendly interface for rapid app development.

Paul Laurence, Co-Founder at Crunchy Data, added, “We’re excited to join forces with Snowflake to provide their customers who already rely on Postgres the ability to run mission-critical regulated workloads with increased confidence and security on the Snowflake platform.” Snowflake also committed to supporting existing Crunchy Data customers while expanding Postgres capabilities within its AI infrastructure. Clients such as Blue Yonder and LandingAI expressed strong support, citing enhanced efficiency and simplified deployment of AI applications with integrated PostgreSQL technology in the Snowflake environment.
